Sognefjorden, the largest fjord of Norway, with its beauty and the surpassing magnitude of its landscape.

The Sognefjord is the largest fjord in Norway, and the second longest in the world. Located in Sogn og Fjordane county, it stretches 205 kilometres inland to the small village of Skjolden. The fjord takes its name from the district of Sogn.
The fjord was carved by the action of ice in the ice ages and was flooded by the sea when the glaciers retreated. Cliffs surrounding the fjord rise almost vertically from the water to heights of 1,000 metres and more. Several smaller fjords branch off from the Sognefjord.
